6,620 students to graduate at convocation – KWASU VC

<h4><span style&equals;"font-size&colon; 14pt&semi; color&colon; var&lpar;--c-contrast-800&rpar;&semi;">The Vice chancellor of the Kwara State University&comma; Malete&comma; Prof&period; Mohammed Akanbi &lpar;SAN&rpar;&comma; has announced that the university would be graduating 6&comma;620 students at this year&&num;8217&semi;s convocation&period;<&sol;span><&sol;h4>&NewLine;<p><img class&equals;"aligncenter wp-image-14739 size-full" src&equals;"https&colon;&sol;&sol;thedailypage&period;ng&sol;wp-content&sol;uploads&sol;2021&sol;12&sol;Muhammed-Mustapha-Akanbi&period;jpeg" alt&equals;"6&comma;620 students to graduate at convocation – KWASU VC" width&equals;"553" height&equals;"554" &sol;><&sol;p>&NewLine;<p><span style&equals;"font-size&colon; 14pt&semi;"> 3&comma;864 students&comma; he said&comma; are for the 2019&sol;2020 session while 2&comma;756 are for the 2020&sol;2021 session&period;<&sol;span><&sol;p>&NewLine;<p><span style&equals;"font-size&colon; 14pt&semi;">This&comma; according to the Nation Newspaper&comma; was made known during a press conference with journalists in the Malete Moro local government area ahead of the institution’s convocation festivities this weekend&period;<&sol;span><&sol;p>&NewLine;<p><span style&equals;"font-size&colon; 14pt&semi;">According to him&comma; 96 first degree students would be bagging first-class at this year&&num;8217&semi;s convocation&period;<&sol;span><&sol;p>&NewLine;<p><span style&equals;"font-size&colon; 14pt&semi;">He added that the school would be graduating 321 students for higher degrees in the 2019&sol;2020 session and 96 in the 2020&sol;2021 session&period;<&sol;span><&sol;p>&NewLine;<p><span style&equals;"font-size&colon; 14pt&semi;">Speaking of students&&num;8217&semi; misconduct &comma; the vice chancellor said &&num;8220&semi;The Kwara State University has zero-tolerance for indiscipline and misconduct&period; All cases of indiscipline were investigated and appropriate punitive measures were taken against students found guilty of such offences&period; This is to ensure that the few bad eggs among students do not contaminate the decent ones&period;&&num;8221&semi;<&sol;span><&sol;p>&NewLine;<p><span style&equals;"font-size&colon; 14pt&semi;">He added that &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;Between 2019&sol;2020 and 2020&sol;2021 academic sessions&comma; a total of 87 students were expelled from the university&period; Their expulsion followed investigation and establishment of their guilt by the Students Disciplinary Committee&period;”<&sol;span><&sol;p>&NewLine;<p><span style&equals;"font-size&colon; 14pt&semi;">Some of the students were also expelled&comma; according to the university&comma; for allegedly engaging in examination misconduct and drug usage&period;<&sol;span><&sol;p>&NewLine;<p><span style&equals;"font-size&colon; 14pt&semi;">&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;Students are also vulnerable and exposed to anti-social influences which are inimical to their health and academic career&&num;8221&semi;&comma; Professor Akanbi said while imploring the federal government and the National Universities Commission &lpar;NUC&rpar; to develop regulations that make living on campus mandatory for all students in Nigeria’s higher institutions&period;<&sol;span><&sol;p>&NewLine;<p><span style&equals;"font-size&colon; 14pt&semi;">He added that his <span style&equals;"color&colon; var&lpar;--c-contrast-800&rpar;&semi;">administration is working very hard to reverse this trend&period; Accommodation for a greater percentage of students on the university campus is one of the ways he envisages to solve the challenge&period;<&sol;span><&sol;span><&sol;p>&NewLine;
