The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has revealed that the Abuja-Kaduna railway service earns at least N300 million every month.
This was revealed by Amaechi during an interview on Channels Television’s ‘Hard Copy.’ The Minister, who revealed that the ministry is currently generating cash for the country’s growth.
He also revealed that the federal government is planning to add 16 additional trains to the Lagos-Ibadan rail line to generate revenue from the axis.
We make N300 million each month from the Abuja-Kaduna railway, he stated.
Right now, we’re running Lagos-Ibadan on the proceeds from the Abuja-Kaduna rail line.
Amaechi expressed confidence in the country’s ability to repay loans used to fund rail transportation and indicated that additional developments in the rail industry are on the way, which will boost revenue generated by the ministry and help the federal government settle its debts.
He said; Nigeria has the capacity to pay its loan. Out of $500 million President Goodluck Jonathan borrowed for the Abuja-Kaduna rail project, at the end of the day, we have paid back over N100 million to the federal government.”
