Nigerians are reacting to a recent publication of Grammy Awards describing Wizkid as Afrobeat giant.
Few hours ago, Grammy released a video telling the world “How Wizkid reshaped Afrobeats with his “Made In Lagos”.
The statement from the Grammy’s YouTube reads below:
“In this episode of For The Record, GRAMMY.com celebrates Wizkid’s 2020 album ‘Made in Lagos,’ which catapulted the Afrobeats giant further into the pop music conversation while elevating his hometown in Nigeria.
“Featuring guests from H.E.R. (“Smile”) to Damian Marley (“Blessed”) to Burna Boy (“Ginger”), the album spans countries and styles with ease — and a remix of “Essence” with Justin Bieber became a global phenomenon in the summer of 2021.
“Wizkid is nominated in two categories at the 2022 GRAMMs — Best Global Music Performance (“Essence”) and Best Global Music Album (‘Made in Lagos: Deluxe Edition’). Tune in on Sunday, April 3, to see if he’ll win the golden gramophone!.”

Nigerians reacting to the publication, @itzbasito wrote, “Grammy talks about how Wizkid reshaped Afrobeats with “Made In Lagos” through a video highlight of his success and a description.
“This further cements Wizkid’s GOAT status as his contributions to the growth of Afrobeats are the reason Afrobeats is where it is today.”
