African history: Cullinan diamond, the world’s biggest diamond

The Cullinan diamond also referred to as the ” star of Africa” was discoverd on January 25, 1905 at the premier mine at Pretoria, South Africa during an inspection by the mine’s superintendent.

The Cullinan diamond is the largest diamond ever found weighing an estimate of 3,106.75 carats.

The British government claimed that it was given to them as a symbol of Peace and friendship yet it was during COLONIALISM.

Interestingly, some Royal jewels are made from the world’s biggest diamond. The Cullinan diamond was used to make the Imperial State Crown and the sovereign’s Sceptre the queen wore at her coronation in 1953.
