As a result of negotiations still underway, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has postponed its decision to strike.
Last Thursday, the union issued a new three-week warning, accusing the federal government of coercion and propaganda.
ASUU made the comment while accusing the Federal Government of abandoning efforts to study the draft 2009 FGN-ASUU Agreement.
ASUU committed to continue fighting for the welfare of professors in a statement headlined ‘Enough of Blackmail,’ signed by its president, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke.
The ASUU stated once more that the Federal Government had failed to address all of the points addressed in the 2009 accord.

The ASUU stated once more that the Federal Government had failed to address all of the points addressed in the 2009 accord.
The statement read in part that NEC was concerned by the spirited efforts of government agents to reduce ASUU’s demands to a regime of intermittent payment of watered-down revitalisation cash and release of distorted and highly devalued Earned Academic Allowances.
ASUU will not halt in its efforts to improve our members’ welfare and working circumstances.
However, we will fight any attempt by state propaganda based on tokenism and crumb-sharing to blackmail the union and derail our patriotic campaign for a constructive university system.
However, in light of the ongoing intervention and consultation efforts, the NEC decided to revisit the situation at a later date with a view to know the next action.
