ASUU: Set up of 2009 pact renegotiation panel’s report ready in April
<h4><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Adamu Adamu, the Minister of Education, is set to launch a committee to renegotiate the 2009 agreement between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities.</span></h4>

<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">The committee is expected to submit its report six weeks after the inauguration.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">According to newsmen, the 2009 agreement has become a point of contention between the two parties.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">ASUU has accused the Federal Government on several occasions of failing to implement some of the agreements reached.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">The government agreed with ASUU in 2009 that the working conditions of university lecturers would be reviewed every five years.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">The issue of lecturers&#8217; salaries and allowances is included in the condition of service.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">However, the education minister has formed a seven-member committee to investigate the agreement.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">According to Ben Goong, the ministry&#8217;s spokesman, the committee will be inaugurated on Monday, 7th March 2022.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, will lead a team to renegotiate the agreement reached between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities in 2009, according to Goong.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Charles Akpan, a spokesman for the Ministry of Labour and Employment, explained that the committee would be expected to submit its report in six weeks.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">The renegotiation committee established by the Ministry of Education is expected to complete everything on the condition of service and submit its report in six weeks, according to Akpan.</span></p>
