The Federal Government has directed all Telecommunication operators which include Airtel, MTN, Glo, and 9 mobile to block sim cards that are not registered with the National Identification Number, NIN after December 30th.
In a statement released by the NCC Director of public Affairs of NCC, Dr Ikechukwu Adinde stated that any telecommunication operator that fails to comply with this new directive will risk outright withdrawal of the license or heavy penalty.
The statement added, “Operators to require all their subscribers to provide valid National Identification Number to update SIM registration records.
“The submission of NIN by subscribers to take place within two weeks (from today December 16, 2020 and end by 30 December, 2020). After the deadline, all SIMs without NINs are to be blocked from the networks.”
Also, Special assistance to new media to President Buhari, Bashir Ahmad confirmed the new development, in a tweet, advised Nigerians to link their number to NIN, and dial *346# to retrieve your NIN if forgetten.
