The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has on Monday conditionally suspended its 9 months old strike.

This is coming after varsity lecturers received their two month arrears.

This was made known to the public by ASUU National Chairman, Biodun Ogunyemi at a briefing of the union on Wednesday, December 23rd, 2020 in Abuja.

Speaking further, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi thanked Nigerian students and parents for their cooperation during the 9 months old strike that started since March, 2020.

He also assured Nigerians that they are returning to classes and therefore appeal to parents to work with them for the revitalisation of universities.

In a press statement by the union, the union insisted that they did not lock the universities, as far as they are concerned.

The union also noted that their members will resume classes from Thursday, December 24th, 2020.

Professor Biodun Ogunyemi added that the government will decide when universities are to resume in line with the COVID-19 complaiance guidelines.

Recall that Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19, PTF, directed school owners including universities not to reopen till January 18th, 2021 due to increase in coronavirus confirmed cases.
