Facebook, one of the biggest social media platforms in the world, has changed its name to Meta.
This was disclosed by Mark Zuckerberg, the Chief Executive Officer, in a presentation at Facebook’s Connect conference, held virtually on Thursday.
“The metaverse is the next frontier. From now on, we’re going to be metaverse-first, not Facebook-first,” he said.
This new development will allow the social media giant make a shift to an emerging computing platform focused on virtual reality — the metaverse, an idea born in the imaginations of sci-fi novelists.
Now, Facebook is focused to allow people communicate easily via virtual environments, where they can teleport to anywhere of their choice.
The company said its stock will start trading under a new ticker, MVRS, on Dec. 1.
