Champions League draw to be redone after error

The Union of European Football Associations has revealed plans to make Champions League draw redone following the miscalculation involving Atletico Madrid, Liverpool, and Manchester United.

According to UEFA, a new Champions League draw will be redone at 2 p.m.

The original draw was declared void as a consequence of a “technical error,” according to UEFA.

The problem came when Atletico Madrid finished second in Group B and their probable last-16 opponents – all group winners – were put into a different pot, but United was left out.

In the last-16 draw, teams that met in the group stages are meant to be kept apart. United did not play Atletico Madrid in the group stages, but Liverpool did, and Jurgen Klopp’s team was incorrectly placed in the pot to meet Atletico, who were subsequently drawn against Bayern Munich.

United had been paired with Paris Saint-Germain in the initial draw, while Liverpool had been paired with Salzburg.

A substantial error occurred in the draw for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 as a result of a technical malfunction with the software of an external service provider that notifies the officials as to which clubs are qualified to face each other, according to UEFA.
