Davido named one of the most influential people in the world by TIME Magazine

Nigerian music star, Davido hit another milestone as he was named one of the next 100 most influential people in the world for 2021 by Time Magazine.
Davido in his reaction wrote on his social media platforms: ‘Proud to be included in the inaugural #TIME100Next list”.
Meanwhile, the excerpt for the selection of Davido was written by Nigerian rapper and BBNaija Lockdown season 5 winner Laycon, according to the magazine.
It reads, “Davido is one of the biggest voices in Afrobeats because his music connects with people, often in ways that transcend his expectations.
“When he released the song “FEM” in 2020, a title that loosely translates to “shut up” in Yoruba, he didn’t know it would become a major #EndSARS protest anthem.
“The youths banded together to demand the government take action to end police brutality in Nigeria last October.
“Officials responded by sending politicians to give speeches. We told the government to keep quiet unless they had something sensible to add to the ethos of “FEM” which was directly relatable at that moment.
“You can tell Davido puts 100% into every song he makes. And the results are clear: his album ‘A Good Time’ surpassed a billion streams in 2020.
“Afrobeat is a worldwide phenomenon and Davido is one of many Nigerian artists who has made that possible.”
However, more artists, from Nicki Minaj to Young Thug, want to work with him.
Davido’s song ‘IF’ which recently sold 500,000 copies in the U.S, has been certified gold.
Other Nigerians on the list include Odun Eweniyi, FK Abudu and Dami Odufuwa.

David Adeleke, the Afrobeats performer known as Davido, said he is Igbo by blood. The singer shot back at someone who warned him about being friendly with Igbo people, saying he could worry about betrayal as a Yoruba man.
The X user, Yakbel, said: “Davido just dey carry Ibo full body, until when dem betray am before e rest. Yoruba boy dey frolick with Ibos in 2025, they want your head and everything you have to belong to them. You can never satisfy Ibos. Ibos are not people you surround yourself with as a Yoruba man.”
Davido overlooked the criticism and just replied:
“Lol. My ancestors are from the Igbo people.”
Nigerian online streamer, Habeeb Hamzat popularly known as Peller has revealed he convinced his girlfriend, Jarvis, to turn down a ₦3 billion offer from Netflix since it required her to kiss someone during the show.
Peller mentioned this during a livestream with Peter Okoye from P-Square.
Peller said, “Netflix offered 3 billion Naira my girlfriend, Jarvis to do a kissing scene, but I turned it down.”
Peter asked, “Do you mean N3 million or N3 billion?”
Peller replied, “N3 billion! I know you might not believe me, but I have the record of the video call. I warned them never to contemplate such ever again. I love my baby. I don’t joke with my baby. She is my life.”
Peter added, “Always look out for her.”

Nigerian actor, Charles Okocha has paid a heartwarming visit to legendary actor Kanayo Kanayo ahead of his upcoming wedding.
Charles visited Kanayo to bring his wedding invitation to him in person. In the video shared by Kanayo, Okocha described him as a man who influenced his acting career greatly and, therefore called him his family and role model.
