FIFA bans football matches in Russia
<h4><span style="font-size: 14pt;">FIFA announced a number of sanctions on Sunday in response to Russia&#8217;s invasion of Ukraine.</span></h4>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">No international soccer matches will be played in Russia, according to the world football governing body.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">The country&#8217;s flag and anthem have also been banned from any international matches.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">FIFA also stated that the national team would not compete as Russia, but as the Football Union of Russia (RFU), and that any games would be played on &#8220;neutral territory&#8221; with no supporters.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">In response to the invasion, several sports federations and clubs have cancelled competitions in Russia or refused to face Russian teams.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">The Czech Republic, Poland, and Sweden have all announced that their national teams will not compete in World Cup qualifiers against Russia next month.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">The Football Association of England also announced that its national team would not play any matches against Russia &#8220;for the foreseeable future.&#8221;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">On Friday, the International Olympic Committee urged international sports federations to relocate or cancel events scheduled in Russia or Belarus. When the invasion began on Thursday, Russian troops entered Ukraine through Belarus.</span></p>
