Forbes names Okonjo-Iweala Africa Person of The Year

<p><strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, the Nigerian born economist, international development expert and former minister of Finance, has been named Forbes Africa Person Of The Year 2020.</span></strong></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Ngozi is now included in the list of eminent Africans to have received the award.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">In 2011, Sanusi became the first Nigerian to won the award.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">In 2013, and 2019, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina, won the award for his outstanding work at the bank and a sterling career in agriculture and finance.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Also, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala becomes first Nigerian female to won the award.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Reacting to the news, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala pledged to deploy her energies at the World Trade Organization for Africa and the world.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">“It is a great honour to serve Africa in different capacities. I look forward to deploying my energies at the WTO for Africa and the world,” she said.</span></p>
<h3><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Who is Ngozi Okonjo Iweala? </span></h3>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Ngozi Okonjo Iweala who was born on 13th June 1954 is a Nigerian born economist.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">She went to Harvard University in 1973 and graduated with Magna Cum Laude in Economics.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">She furthered her education as she earned her PhD in regional Economics and development from the Massachusetts Institution of Technology (MIT).</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Ngozi has served as Nigeria&#8217;s minister of Finance and Minister of Foreign Affairs.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Well, Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala us happily married to Dr Ikemba Iweala who is a neurosurgeon.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">And their marriage is blessed with four wonderful children.</span></p>
