Following the incident at Dowen college that led to the death of a 12-year-old boy, Slyvester Oromoni, another parent has come out to narrate how her daughter almost died at Dowen college.
The parent identified as Lizzy Kalu tells the story of how her daughter was in a near-death experience. Kalu explained some years back on Instagram how one of her daughters (Amarachi) was seriously ill, but instead of the school calling her, they only took her to the sickbay.
The woman narrated further that her other daughter had to use someone’s phone to call her, because of this the school management was angry and demanded to know why they had called her mom. She wrote on her Instagram on Friday:
“All my children attended Dowen college. I feel the urge to speak up now because if the death of Slyvester Oromoni whose death would have been avoided if the school acted like they owe a duty of care to their students.
“Year’s ago, my last daughter, Amarachi became very sick, almost to the point of death while in school.
She was kept in the sick bay and the school did not call me. My other daughter who attended the school at the same time as my last daughter used someone’s phone to call me to pick up Amarachi.
Rather than the school being grateful, I was called to pick up my very sick child, they were instead very angry I was called and disciplined my other two children who called.
It’s terrible that Dowen college breached their duty to care for children they are supposed to nurture and protect. This is an example of where their negligence towards their children could’ve escalated. However, in the case of Slyvester, their negligence ended in the death of a child. I hope the family of Slyvester gets justice in this matter”
She adds “The vice-principal Mr. Olusesi has been in that school for over 10 years and he is manipulative and wicked”
