My team has been weakened – Antonio Conte

Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has criticized the club’s January transfer activity, claiming that his team has been ‘weakened.’

Tanguy Ndombele was transferred back to Lyon during the January transfer window, while Giovani Lo Celso and Bryan Gil joined Valencia and Villarreal, respectively.

Dele Alli joined Premier League rivals Everton, while Jack Clarke joined Sunderland on loan.

Tottenham, on the other hand, signed Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus, two players who had underperformed at the Serie A giants.

Antonio Conte told Sky Sport Italia ahead of Tottenham’s Premier League match against Manchester City on Saturday, “Rather than strengthening the squad, we on paper diminished it.” Tottenham is looking for young players who can develop and progress, not guys who are ready, therefore Bentancur and Kulusevski are good prospects. That is the problem.

“This is the club’s vision and philosophy.”

“It’s inevitable that if you want to grow quicker and if you want to be competitive more quickly, you need players with a lot of experience, because they also raise the experience level of the team as a whole.”

Tottenham presently sits in eighth place in the Premier League rankings, seven points behind the Champions League places.
