NMA, ASUU are not recognized labour unions – FG
<h4><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan, the Federation&#8217;s Civil Service Head, stated on Monday that NMA, ASUU as well as their affiliates, were not recognized labor unions in the public sector.</span></h4>

<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">She added that the Federal Government was thinking about establishing two new councils in the education and health sectors.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Yemi-Esan said this during the opening of the separate and joint meetings of the national public service negotiating councils, which were attended by Dr. Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, and Ayuba Wabba, National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">According to the HOS, she said that maintaining industrial harmony in any sector of a country&#8217;s economy, including the public sector, is strategic and critical to national development. This is because meaningful development cannot occur in any country where the grievances of workers, who are the engines of development, are ignored.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">In line with the principle and practice of collective bargaining, the government has had to engage organized labor unions in constant dialogue, particularly in recent times. Thus, it is delightful to note that such effort was not in vain, as evidenced by the country&#8217;s evidently harmonious industrial atmosphere.</span></p>
