One hundred and forty-six of the 362 passengers on the ill-fated Abuja-Kaduna train are unreachable six days after the train was attacked by terrorists.
The Managing Director of Nigerian Railway Corporation, Mr. Fidet Okhiria, announced this in a statement obtained on Monday, April 4th, 2022.
Although, according to him, the number of safe passengers had risen to 186.
Okhiria said that 51 phone numbers on the manifest are either switched off or unreachable, 35 phone numbers on the manifest are ringing, but no response, and 60 phone numbers on the manifest when called, responded non-existent.
The NRC boss clarified that 22 persons are reported missing by their relatives and 8 persons were confirmed dead.
The statement is aimed at updating the public on the latest development regarding the clearing of the incident site and the status of passengers that were onboard the AK9 train on Monday, March 28th, 2022.
Okhiria made known to the public that two coaches earlier re-railed have safely transferred to Rigasa Station bringing the total number of recovered coaches to be 7.
According to him, intensive work is currently ongoing on the rail tracks, more concrete sleepers were moved to the site while some section of twisted tracks has been straightened.
He said that Nigerians will be notified of the latest developments will to prevent misleading information and falsehood.
