Ballon d’Or organizers have reacted to Messi’s suggestion to award Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski the 2020 Ballon d’ Or award for his performance last year.
Speaking on the development, the organizers of Ballon d’Or organizers stated that they are thinking of awarding Robert Lewandowski the 2020 Ballon d’Or award.
According to the organizers, Ballon d’Or was not organized last year due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Robert Lewandoski was the favorite to win last year’s award having won the treble with Bayern and finishing as the tournament’s highest goal scorer.
“Robert, you deserve your Ballon d’Or. Last year, everyone was in agreement to say that you were the big winner of this award,” Messi had said after receiving his seventh Ballon d’ Or.
However, France Football editor-in-chief Pascal Ferré stated in response to the news that Lewandowski is open to the possibility.
What Messi said was nice and clever. I think we do not have to make very quick decisions. We can think about it and at the same time we should respect the history of the Ballon d’Or, which is based on voting,” Ferré told Watson via Bulinews.
“We can’t be sure if Lewandowski would have won the Ballon D’Or last year. We can’t know because there was no vote. But, to be honest, Lewandowski would have had a great chance of winning last year.”
