Pastor J.H. Abiona, the Retired Deputy General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has died.
This was made known to the public on Saturday, January 1st, 2021 as a church official confirmed the death of the 96-year-old retired DGO of the church to newsmen.
Abiona was a church elder who was well-respected. After the death of the founder, Pa Josiah Akindayomi, he was named acting General Superintendent.
Abiona had handled the church leadership transition from Akindayomi to Adeboye and withstood the storm caused by people who were eager to head the church despite God’s purpose, which had already been revealed to them.
Abiona was known as one of the very few people to pray for Adeboye and his wife, Foluke, during church programs. He was respected for his humility and commitment to God’s work in the church.
In a previous interview with a church journal, he stated, “I thank God that we insisted on fulfilling God’s will, and today everyone can see that the successor was God’s decision.”
