Karim Benzema, a Real Madrid attacker, has confessed that winning the Ballon d’Or this year is still his top aim.
Winning means different things to different people, according to France international.
Benzema came in fourth place, behind Chelsea’s Jorginho, Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, and winner Lionel Messi of Paris Saint-Germain.
“Finishing 4th, 3rd, 2nd, or 30th… it’s all the same, what matters is winning,” he said.
In his opinion, the award is for players who lead their teams, score in crucial moments, and win titles.
“Do I have a chance to win the Ballon d’Or in 2022?” It’s something we could set as a goal.”
The Real Madrid key man noted that he will do everything he can to improve on his performance from last season.
Last season, the 33-year-old came close to leading Los Blancos to the LaLiga crown, scoring 23 goals. Atletico Madrid, their local rivals, beat them by two points.
Benzema also helped France to the UEFA Nations League title this season.
