The presidential task force on COVID-19 has on Thursday, 24th December, 2020, announced that Nigeria is not going to ban flights from UK, South Africa and other high burden countries.
This was disclosed on Thursday at a press briefing by the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19.
This is coming just few days after an expert, Nigerian scientist at Africa Center of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases, in an exclusive interview with Premium Times, revealed that new COVID-19 variant in UK has been found in Nigeria.
However, Nigerians on social media called on Federal government to ban all UK flights in order to limit the spread of the new COVID-19 variant in UK.
Also, former vice president, Atiku Abubakar had urged FG to halt all flights from UK following the discovery of the new strain of COVID-19.
In a tweet by Personal Assistant on New Media to President Buhari, Bashir Ahmad stated that PTF revealed that some of the countries that initially banned flights have now adopted the requirements already in place in Nigeria.
