According to talkSPORT, the FA has decided not to use Lee Mason as a VAR for a Premier League match this weekend.
This comes after Newcastle’s controversial Saturday goal that was disallowed.
At the beginning of the 2022–23 season, Mason transitioned from being a referee to becoming a specialist video assistant referee.
Mason worked as a referee for the Saturday Premier League match between Newcastle and Crystal Palace, where the home team had a goal disallowed.
Tyrick Mitchell’s own goal was first given by Michael Salisbury, the game’s center referee, but he was forced to reconsider after Mason begged him to.
After colliding with Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita, Newcastle attacker Joe Willock was given a foul by Salisbury.
Replays, however, indicated that Mitchell had shoved Willock in the back, causing the collision, and that the goal ought to have stood.
