Beginning Monday, December 6, the United Kingdom has prohibited flights from Nigeria due to the Omicron strain of the COVID-19 virus.
Sajid Javid, the UK Secretary of State for Health, said on his verified Twitter account that only residents and nationals of the United Kingdom and Ireland traveling from Nigeria will be permitted admission into the region.
Sajid stated only UK/Irish nationals and residents traveling from Nigeria will be allowed into the country, even though they will be required to isolate in a supervised quarantine facility.
Nigeria verified its first cases of the Omicron type on Wednesday, which were connected to South African travelers.
