The UN Children’s Fund announced a $9.4 billion emergency fundraising appeal for children affected by COVID-19 and other humanitarian crises on Tuesday.
‘UNICEF launches US$9.4 billion emergency fundraising appeal for children affected by violence, the climate catastrophe, and COVID-19,’ according to a release.
According to the announcement, the monies would be used to support important programs for more than 327 million people in 145 countries in 2022, including 177 million children.
The appeal is 31% larger than last year’s as humanitarian needs continue to rise, according to the statement.
The UNICEF Executive Director, Henrietta Fore, spoke on the necessity for the fundraising appeal, stating that the COVID-19 epidemic would cause increased poverty and inequality for children all around the world.
Conflict, extreme weather events, and the climate crisis are wreaking havoc on millions of children around the world, the covid chart has shown.
