The World Health Organization (WHO) has identified a new variant of the COVID-19 virus and have labelled the “Mu”. The Health agency also claimed that these new variants may be immune to the COVID-19 vaccines.
The World Health Organisation’s report read ” Based on the latest round of assessment, B.1.621 was classified as VOI on 30 August 2021and given the WHO label “Mu” This include the descendant pango lineage B.1.621.1. This variant is known as 21H in Nextstrain nomenclature”
The World Health Organization in its epidemiological update published on Tuesday stated that these new variants has shown some resistance to the COVID-19 vaccines, but reveled that more studies were required before a final conclusion can be made.
WHO, also revealed that cases of these variants have not been found in Africa, but some cases have been identified in Europe and South America.
