Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has granted permission for the club to sign Barcelona’s Phillipe Coutinho, according to Fichajes.net.
Arsenal are presently fourth in the Premier League, but Arteta wants to add to his team when the January transfer window opens.
The North London club is now attempting to outbid Everton for Coutinho’s services.
Coutinho is Barcelona’s highest-paid player, but he is said to have fallen out of favor with new coach Xavi Hernandez.
Xavi has decided that the 29-year-old is no longer needed at Camp Nou.
Given the LaLiga club’s precarious financial circumstances, they are working around the clock to unload the Brazilian midfielder who rarely plays.
Arsenal may be that club, with the Gunners hoping he can help the 29-year-old reclaim the form that made him a fan favorite during his five-year spell at Liverpool.
Mikel Arteta’s side are currently on a run of good form and have maintained their position in the top four in recent weeks.
