Premier League clubs will have to show four positive COVID-19 cases in order to ask to have a match called off, according to new Premier League postponement rules.
The new instruction comes after a slew of contentious decisions to postpone games, with teams citing coronavirus, injuries, bans, and players on international service as justifications.
In the Premier League this season, 22 matches have been postponed due to coronavirus and other circumstances.
Arsenal’s controversial delay against Spurs, which prompted criticism from their north London rivals, was the most recent match to be put off.
On Monday, the Premier League revealed that the number of positive Covid-19 instances has dropped for the fourth week in a running.
The new rules will take effect ahead of Burnley’s Premier League match against Watford on Saturday, February 5.
