Josko Gvardiol, a center back for RB Leipzig, is expected to make a surprise transfer to Chelsea this summer.
The Evening Standard reports that Chelsea is eager to make Gvardiol their top transfer target to take Cesar Azpilicueta’s place. Azpilicueta is reportedly planning to sign with Barcelona this summer.
Chelsea has been linked with a move for Gvardiol all summer, and the Premier League powerhouse is looking to add three central defenders to its roster this offseason.
Last season, the 20-year-old made 46 appearances for RB Leipzig, helping the German team win the DFB Pokal and earn a spot in the UEFA Champions League.
Kalidou Kouliably has previously been acquired by Chelsea from Napoli.
Nathan Ake of Manchester City was the player that Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel wanted to sign, but the Citizens were unwilling to sell, therefore the Leipzig man became the focus.
