Erling Haaland, a striker for Borussia Dortmund, has picked Robert Lewandowski, Karim Benzema, and Lionel Messi as the world’s three best players, omitting Ronaldo in his list.
Lewandowski was recently named best FIFA Men’s Player of the Year for 2021, just months after France Football was criticised for failing to award him the Ballon d’Or.
Messi, the superstar of Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona icon, won the Ballon d’Or for the seventh time.
Lewandowski scored 69 goals in all competitions, breaking Gerd Muller’s record of 43 goals in a calendar year.
Benzema, a France international, had a fantastic season, scoring 30 goals as Real Madrid came within a whisker of winning La Liga.
When Sky Sports asked Haaland to select his top three players for 2021, he responded, “That’s a good question.” I believe Lewandowski is the best player in the world.
“And then you have Benzema, who has also been incredible, but Messi is also exceptional.”
As a result, he said Benzema and Messi finished second and third, respectively.
