Despite their erratic start to the new season, Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher thinks Jurgen Klopp’s team can still contend with Manchester City for the English Premier League (EPL) championship this year.
In 2021–2022, Liverpool gave defending champions Man City a run for their money, almost missing out on first place following a thrilling final day by only one point.
Liverpool is currently six points behind early leaders Arsenal and five points behind Pep Guardiola’s team after six games of the new campaign.
But according to Carragher, Liverpool is still in the running for the Premier League championship.
“They [Liverpool] can still challenge for the Premier League, no doubt. But in terms of turning a corner, it needs more than one game,” Carragher told the Daily Mail (via Football365).
“There have been five or six games where Liverpool have been nowhere near their best.”
He added, “[Against Ajax] there was a typical Jurgen Klopp Liverpool performance, but I think they will need more than one game. You need to see the next four or five games to see if Liverpool are back on track. But it was nice to see Liverpool back to their best.”
