Following his arrest on allegations of rape and assault, Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood’s association with Nike has been suspended.
Greenwood was apprehended by police on Sunday after a lady accused him of assaulting her in photos, videos, and audio files shared on social media.
While the investigation is underway, Manchester United has already stated that Greenwood would not be returning to training or playing, but has not yet legally suspended him.
Following the initial appearance of the material on the internet, Nike issued a statement expressing their worry.
They’ve now decided to put their friendship with the striker on hold, officially.
“We have suspended our relationship with Mason Greenwood. We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation,” Nike said in a statement.
It comes after Greater Manchester Police stated that Greenwood had been allowed further time to be interviewed by detectives probing the accusations.
