The chairman of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Professor Ogunyemi has clarified that ASUU is yet to call off its strike which has lasted for 10 months.
This is coming after Federal government pledged to increase the total payment to the union to N70 billion as announced during a meeting with the government team led by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, and union leadership in Abuja, on Friday.
Reacting to the media reports that ASUU is about to call off strike.
In a chat with Vanguard, the president of ASUU, Prof. Ogunyemi, said : ” I am not aware of that. All I know is that we had a meeting and we are going to report to our members. But I don’t know about suspension of strike.”
BACKGROUND
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is a Nigerian Union of university academic staff founded in 1978 which is covering academic staff in all of the federal and state universities in the country.
Professor Biodun Ogunyemi is the current chairman of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
