The Federal Government has debunked reports of Republic of Benin aspiring to become the 37th state in Nigeria.

There have been multiple reports of President of Benin Republic, Patrice Talon, telling Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama,  that his country is ready to be part of Nigeria on Saturday, February 20.

However, in a statement released on Saturday night, the spokesperson of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ferdinard Nwoye, revealed that the “President of Benin said he would like the relation between Benin Republic and Nigeria should be as close as if Benin republic was the 37th state of Nigeria.”
