    Yoruba-Hausa clash: I grew up, schooled, started my career in the North – Peter Okoye

    Nigerian singer Peter Okoye of the defunct group, Psquare has condemned the killing of Northerners in Oyo state.

    The singer took to his Twitter page on Sunday, February 14th, 2021 and asked Nigerians to stop Ethnicity, Tribalism and racism attack.

    He also revealed to Nigerians that there’s nothing wrong to marry from a different tribe as he got married to Yoruba woman being an Igbo man.

    He added that his musical career started in the North and now he can even speak Hausa fluently.

    He tweeted, “I am an Igbo man, married to a Yoruba woman.
    I grew up in the north, schooled in the north, started my career in North. And today i speak Hausa language fluently.
    Please this Ethnicity,Tribalism and Racism has to Stop?!!! Haba! What is going on?#StopTheBloodShed.”

    In a series of tweet, the singer stated that Nigerian government has failed the country, adding that they are working for their own selfish interest.

    He added, “Our so called leaders have really failed us. They have no shame at all. They are just working for their own selfish interest nothing more!

    *SAY NO TO ETHNICITY
    *SAY NO TO RACISM
    #StopTheBloodshed”.

    YORUBA-HAUSA CLASH IN OYO

    On Friday, February 13th, 2021, there was a clash between some Yoruba traders and Hausa traders at the Shasha Market area of Ibadan, Oyo state.

    This clash led to shops, properties and houses being torched by hoodlums who attacked anybody that can’t speak Yoruba.

    As per media reports, the clash started after a Hausa man beat a pregnant woman.

    There afterwards, a Yoruba cobbler challenged the Hausa man for beating a woman who is pregnant.

    According to News Agency Of Nigeria reports, the Hausa man who is a cart pusher stabbed the Yoruba cobbler with a knife which later landed the cobbler to hospital but died as a result of injury sustained during the clash.

    It was learnt that the cobbler’s death angered the youths and the triggered the violence in Oyo state.

    Also, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state has imposed a curfew in the area which covers Shasha and the market area, is to run from 6 pm to 7 am. He also ordered the closure of Shasha market.
