Everton sign Spurs midfielder, Dele Alli for £40m

Dele Alli has joined Everton on a permanent basis from Tottenham in a move worth up to £40 million.

Alli has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Toffees, hoping to rekindle his stalled career at Goodison Park.

The £40 million transfer price is likely to be structured around performance-related add-ons.

Frank Lampard, the new Everton manager who was only officially appointed on Monday afternoon, was instrumental in persuading the 25-year-old to join the club.

Lampard also persuaded Manchester United midfielder Donny Van de Beek to join on loan for the remainder of the season.

Alli might make his Everton debut against Newcastle United in the Premier League next Tuesday.

Alli leaves Tottenham after seven years with the club, having joined for £5 million from MK Dons in February 2015.

He made 269 appearances for Spurs in all competitions, scoring 67 goals, 51 of which came in the Premier League.

For the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons, the England midfielder won back-to-back PFA Young Player of the Year accolades, as well as helping Spurs reach their first Champions League final in 2019.
