Manchester City announced the signing of Julian Alvarez from River Plate on Monday.
The Premier League champions will pay €17 million for Alvarez, who will stay at the club until at least the summer.
The Etihad Stadium has signed the 22-year-old forward to a five-and-a-half-year contract.
Txiki Begiristain, the City’s director of football, said in a statement, that Julian is a guy the club has been keeping an eye on for a while
The director believes the club can offer him the necessary conditions to fulfill his potential and become a great player.
The Argentina international, who turned 22 on transfer deadline day, will stay at River Plate at least until July.
Alvarez, who scored 20 goals and added nine assists in 35 league games for River last season, was a target for a number of European clubs, including Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Barcelona.
City believes they have acquired a player with enormous potential, with Alvarez regarded as one of Argentina’s brightest young talents.
