Men used me for money – Singer, Waje reveals as she shares the story behind her song, Bills Bills

Nigerian singer, Waje has talked about her song “Bills Bills” and about men using her for money.

Recall that the lyrics of the song talked about a woman who spends on her men.

Due to that, her man got used to the treatment and refused to reciprocate.

It reads;

“I cannot deny the fact baby / Say you fine die baby / But I’m sorry to disappoint you / No be fine girl I go chop baby

Since we met / Na me don dey sort the bills bills when you request / Kiakia I don send you the alert

Wasn’t complaining cos you were taking care of some family issues / But it’s a lie / You’re getting used to this oh baby / You need to man up / You’re getting used to this

I for like u make u spoil me in return / I for like u make you take me places / The way I do you / You’re getting used to this oh baby”

Speaking in a recent interview with The Guardian, Waje opened up about the story behind the song.

She said:

“Bills Bills is about a woman who keeps spending on her guy, but he never really does the same. There is nothing wrong with a woman coming through for a man she actually loves if she’s financially loaded, but there is also a thin line between taking that for granted.

Like crossing those boundaries and being like, ‘oh what, it just seems like she had to give and he demanded it all the time and vice versa, even with women demanding all the time.’ The song is for everyone because if your loved one is not there, your lover or your boyfriend or whatever, your girlfriend and if they are not there, you will still take care of yourself.

Even in marriages, I believe that people should help each other; it shouldn’t always be a one-way street, because you are meant to build together.

So, that’s what Bills Bills is about. It was just a woman saying, ‘Hmmm, you are getting used to this my, every time alert, do you get.’

Now, has that ever happened to me? I have had instances where I have gone on dates and we were not really dating. We were just having a conversation to see if we could get into a relationship, you know. And then, next thing a proposal lands on my lap and it’s not even a proposal that is going to benefit like a co-investor, do you understand. It was more like loan me this money, I will give you back and it’s not like you and I are… so, you see where I drew the experience from.”

“Being rich is not the birthright of men alone” – Linda Ikeji to ladies

Linda Ikeji speaks on definition of success

Nigerian celebrity blogger, Linda Ikeji, has advised ladies, saying being rich is not the birthright of men alone.

On Thursday afternoon, she shared her definition of success as a woman on her Instagram page and shared how she believed women should view themselves.

Linda Ikeji wrote, “Dear young lady, I hear you! If that’s how you see life and want to live life, it’s your choice! To each his own. As for me, I’d rather be as rich as those men who must pay me for being beautiful. Being rich is not the birthright of men alone. I’d rather be their contemporary than waiting for their handouts.

I know many believe it’s a man’s world; maybe it is, but with fearlessness, strength, determination, and grace, women can dominate and thrive in it. So, instead of waiting for men’s charity, I’d rather start early to fight for my dreams, build my business(es), break boundaries, and if God allows, shatter tables.

I want to get to a point in my life where I can get myself anything I want that money can buy without having to beg or sleep with any man to get it. I want to go into a store, see a $60k Cartier watch that I love, and pay for it, instead of wondering which man I’ll call and plotting all the things I will say and do to get him to buy it for me.

I know that my greatest superpower as a woman is being financially independent, as this will give me the choice to live life on my own terms, date or marry whoever my heart wants and walk away when it no longer serves me, instead of being forced to stick with a man I can no longer stand because I can’t stand on my own.

I want when a man comes into my life, no matter how rich he is, for his money to be a bonus and not my only source of livelihood. And as he gives to me, which I will happily collect, I will give to him in return.

I want to dress as sexy as I like and enter any place without a man walking up to me and asking how much it will cost to take me home for the night because he knows who the F I is… a boss babe with her own business as rich as he is.. or maybe even richer! .

Seriously, I’d rather, if God forbid I end up with a deadbeat, be able to give my child(ren) the absolute best life without having to be at the mercy of a scornful & bitter ex.

With all humility, I refuse for the quality of my life to be dependent on the benevolence of men. I want the protection, power, and security that comes with having my own money. But like I said in the beginning, that’s just me! To each his own!.”
