    Ten Nigerian singers who started from the church choir

    Choir is a body of singers who perform together as a group to lead and enlivens the congregation’s song.

    We have some Nigerian singer who started their music career from the church’s choir.

    In this article, The Daily Page compiles list of Nigerian singers who started singing in church before making it big in the entertainment industry.

    1. Banky W

    Banky W

    Banky W whose real name is Olubankole Wellington was born on 27th March, 1981 in the United States of America to a Nigerian parents.

    Before he made it big in the Entertainment industry, Banky W started as a church chorister at a younger age in his church.

    2. Simi

    Simi

    Simi whose full name is Simisola Kosoko was born on 19th April, 1988, in Ojuelegba, Lagos State.

    At teen age, Simi started her musical career in church choir and released her debut studio album titled Ogaju in 2008.

    3. Wande Coal

    Wande Coal

    Wande Coal whose real name is Oluwatobi Wande Ojosipe was born on 18th October, 1985 in Lagos Island.

    Before he got signed to Don Jazzy’s Mo’Hits records, Wande Coal. He started his musical career in the teenage choir at his church.

    4. Wizkid

    Wizkid

    Wizkid whose real name is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun was born on 16th July 1990 in Surulere, Lagos state.

    Before Wizkid became recognized as one of the Africa’s biggest artists, and also one of the most revolutionary Afro Pop artists of the modern era, Wizkid began singing at age 11 in Teenage Choir in his church.

    5. Waje

    Waje

    Waje whose real name is Aituaje Iruobe was born on 1st September, 1980.

    Before Waje gained recognition in the entertainment industry after featuring in the remake of P-Square’s “Omoge Mi”, she sang Gospel to the delight of the late Arch Bishop Benson Idahosa.

    Afterwards, Benson Idahosa got impressed with her performance and decided to help her financially during her entire secondary school days.

    6. Don Jazzy

    Don Jazzy

    Don Jazzy whose real name is Michael Collins Ajereh was born on 26th November, 1982 in Umuahia.

    Before Don Jazzy became internationally recognized record producer, audio engineer, singer and songwriter, he was a multi instrumentalist in his church as he played the drums for a local church in London when his uncle invited him.

    7. Chidinma

    Chidinma

    Chidinma Ekile who is a Nigerian singer and songwriter was born on 2nd May, 1991.

    Before she rose to stardom after winning the third season of project Fame West Africa, she joined the church choir at age 10.

    8. Rema

    Rema

    Rema whose real name is Divine Ikubor was born on 1st May, 2000, in Benin, Edo state.

    He became popular after he released a song titled Iron Man which later appeared on Barack Obama’s 2019 summer playlist.

    Before he signed a record deal with Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavins Records, he also started his music career in his church choir.

    9. Timaya

    Timaya

    Timaya whose real name is Inetemi Timaya Odon was born on 15th August, 1980, Port Harcourt, Rivers state.

    In an exclusive interview with Ndani TV’s The Juice, Timaya started singing as a church choir before he made it big in the entertainment industry.

    10. Darey Art Alade

    Darey Art Alade

    Darey Art Alade who was born on 9th February, 1982, is a Nigerian songwriter, record producer and philanthropist.

    He started his musical career at a early age as he sing for his church including the National Troupe of Nigeria Choir and Cathedral Choir.
