Lionel Messi, the star of Paris Saint-Germain, has advised Barcelona against signing Simons Xavi.
In PSG’s French Cup defeat to Nice on Monday night, the 18-year-old Xavi missed the game-winning penalty.
Xavi, a product of Barcelona’s academy, left the Catalan club in 2019 after being given a lucrative deal by PSG, with the LaLiga giants reportedly unhappy with the youngster’s departure.
Barcelona had maintained faith in the youngster, who was regarded as the Catalan club’s next big talent.
Barcelona has been considering bringing him back to Camp Nou in the summer, according to Catalan publication El Nacional.
And now, according to El Nacional, Barcelona’s new manager, Xavi Hernandez, has contacted Messi to see if re-signing the youngster is a smart idea.
When Messi visited Barcelona recently to celebrate Xavi Hernandez’s birthday, the two men discussed the player over dinner, and Messi counseled against signing the young Xavi.
Messi is alleged to have told Barca manager Luis Enrique that many of the problems he experienced with the Catalan club when he was younger are still present.
According to reports, the 18-year-old Spaniard lacks humility and feels he is better than Messi. Despite the fact that he has not yet turned professional, he seeks a large salary from Barca.
