Paul Merson gives reasons Erik ten Hag will struggle at Man United

The incoming Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, has been warned by Arsenal veteran Paul Merson that his ambitions for the Red Devils may be worthless.

The majority of the players the Dutchman wants to bring to Old Trafford are already Premier League flops, according to Paul Merson.

Prior to his arrival at Old Trafford, the Arsenal veteran cautioned the 52-year-old that the English top tier cannot be compared to the Dutch league and questioned Hag’s qualifications.

Paul Merson claims that the former Ajax manager will struggle in the Premier League.

The 52-year-old has joined at United with the goal of restoring success to Old Trafford after leading Ajax to three Eredivisie titles.

“He’s got to prove himself. It’s alright saying you’re going to come in and play the Ajax way, play on the front foot, that’s Dutch football,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“You look at [Dusan] Tadic, he didn’t really kick it over here[In the Premier League] – no one else really wanted him – he’s the best player over in Holland.

“[Sebastien] Haller couldn’t get a game here and can’t stop scoring. I heard one story saying he could bring Haller with him, surely Man United fans won’t be having that? Dutch football hasn’t got a Man City, a Chelsea, a Liverpool, a Tottenham or Arsenal or West Ham, this is going to be hard.

It’s going to be a hard, hard road.”
