From next season, Premier League clubs have agreed to utilize five substitutions each match.
At a meeting of all 20 clubs on Thursday, top-flight clubs voted in favor of the rule change.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, five replacements were first released in May 2020. However, for the 2020/2021 season and this campaign, the Premier League has restored to three substitutes.
Several times in the last two years, clubs have voted against the introduction of five substitutes.
“Clubs agreed to change the rules relating to substitute players.
“From next season, clubs will be permitted to use five substitutions, to be made on three occasions during a match, with an additional opportunity at half-time.
“A total of nine substitutes can be named on the team sheet,” a statement read.
