Gary Neville has slammed all but two Manchester United players, describing them as absolute disgrace.
Manchester United’s woes have lasted all season, as they suffered their latest embarrassment at the hands of Brighton at the weekend.
Ralf Rangnick’s men were beaten 4-0 by Brighton on Saturday and ended any hopes of qualifying for the Champions League next season.
And Neville, a Manchester United legend, singled Cristiano Ronaldo and goalkeeper David de Gea as the only Red Devils’ players who deserve credit. He landed hard on the others and feels they deserve whatever they get from the club.
“The more I think about it, Ronaldo stays,” he said on the Gary Neville Podcast. I believe that the worse things get, the more he stays to avoid looking like he’s fleeing.
“Many of them [Manchester United players] will leave…
“I think De Gea and Ronaldo have held their own this season, they’ve performed well, but none of them can complain about whatever happens to them this summer.” They simply cannot.
“It’s been a really shocking two or three months; I can’t wait for the season to end, to stop talking about them.”
“You can’t look at them. It is what it is, a summer cleanout.
“They’re just damaging themselves to a point whereby fans won’t forget…It’s been a disgrace for a couple of months.
“They’ve won three in 13? That’s an absolute disgrace. It’s absolutely embarrassing, the players in that dressing room and the cost of that dressing room.”
The Red Devils must now win their final game to have any chance of qualifying for the Europa League next season, or they will face their first experience in the Europe Conference League.
However, the club has already announced the arrival of Erik ten Hag, who will take over as interim manager at Old Trafford from next season when Ralf Rangnick’s six-month contract expires.
Ten Hag will be heavily supported by the club’s hierarchy in his efforts to overhaul the entire team and decide which players will be retained at the club, as he is tasked with restoring the Red Devils’ glory days.
Neville is a Man United legend and a former Valencia coach.
