A covid epidemic has hit Tottenham Hotspur’s training ground.
Spurs have a tough schedule ahead of them, with a Europa League match against Rennes on Thursday night and a Premier League match against Brighton on Sunday afternoon.
The north Londoners go to Leicester City on Thursday before hosting Liverpool at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, December 19.
However, a number of players and coaching staff have tested positive for coronavirus, throwing Tottenham manager Antonio Conte’s preparations into disarray.
Earlier in the season, two players for the team recorded false-positive tests and then received negative results on two follow-up tests.
If the epidemic is confirmed, it could have an impact on the games ahead, depending on the number of people affected and whether or not there are any more instances.
While there has been precedent for Premier League matches being postponed owing to a covid outbreak in one club’s camp, the situation in the Europa Conference League is slightly different.
According to the competition’s UEFA rules, a match is only in peril if “fewer than 13 players listed on the A list are available” or “no registered goalkeeper is available.”
Tottenham would be able to complete that match on Thursday night as things stand.
