UEFA to ban six clubs from European competitions

FC Porto and Sporting Lisbon are two Portuguese clubs among eight that have been punished and six that have been threatened with removal from European competitions due to outstanding debts.

Due to their “non-compliance with the ‘no overdue payables’ condition,” the clubs have been found in violation of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play criteria.

All of the sanctions were handed down by UEFA’s newly formed ‘First Chamber of Club Financial Control Body.’

Clube Desportivo Santa Clara (Brazil), CSKA Sofia (Bulgaria), Mons Calpe (Gibraltar), CFR Cluj (Romania), Real Betis (Spain), and Astana (Kazakhstan) are among the clubs affected (Portugal).

According to the authorities, if the debts are not paid by January 31, 2022, six of the teams will be barred from the champions league.

Only Astana and CFR Cluj-Napoca are exempt from the additional sanction.

Sporting has already qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League this season while Athletico Madrid has dumped Porto.

Enzo Maresca on Monday appointed as the new manager of the men’s team at Chelsea FC.

The West London Premier League team made this announcement on its website in a statement, saying, commencing July 1, 2024, Maresca will assume his new position. The Blues put the Italian under contract for five years.
