Andreas Christensen, a centre back for Chelsea, has tested positive for Covid, putting him out of Saturday’s match against title contenders Manchester City.

In defense, Thomas Tuchel is already without long-term absentees Ben Chilwell and Reece James, with Trevoh Chalobah out as well.

He informed to the media on Friday lunchtime that Denmark international Christensen has been sidelined due to a positive test and will be placed in isolation.

Mateo Kovacic, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Romelu Lukaku, and Timo Werner have all had to isolate in recent weeks as a result of positive Covid tests in Tuchel’s squad.

For Wednesday’s 1-0 Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg success against Tottenham, the Blues had only just managed a clean coronavirus slate.

Chelsea barely survived two days without any Covid absentees when Thiago Silva and N’Golo Kante returned from their isolation to take a seat on the bench in north London in midweek.

Chelsea manager Tuchel compared Covid-19 testing to catching fish, with a slew of players still finding their feet after extended spells and some already gone.
