Augustine Eguavoen, the Super Eagles coach, has resigned.
This comes after the Super Eagles’ 1-0 round-of-16 loss to Tunisia in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Eguavoen had led the three-time winners to victories over Egypt, Sudan, and Guinea-Bissau in a row.
In the final stages, however, they were defeated by a Tunisian team suffering from Covid.
Eguavoen announced his decision to return to his duties as the NFF’s Technical Director at a post-match press conference.
“What happens next is that I am the Nigeria Football Federation’s temporary coach and Technical Director” (NFF).
“I’m going back to my position and waiting for the NFF to make a decision,” Eguavoen stated after the game.
After Gernot Rohr was fired last month, Eguavoen took over. Prior to the start of the AFCON, the NFF confirmed Jose Peseiro as the new permanent coach.
