At the start of the season, the protocols, which include social distancing was implemented.

Clubs with good vaccination rates were allowed to remove some of the limitations, but they must now reintroduce them to help prevent the spread of the Omicron variant.

Spurs’ Premier League match against Brighton on Sunday has been rescheduled because of a Covid-19 outbreak inside the club.

Due to positive Covid-19 tests, a number of Leicester players did not travel to Italy for their Europa League group game against Napoli on Thursday.

The Premier League has not revealed how many clubs were able to get the rules relaxed.

Wearing masks in indoor locations, therapy lasting no more than 15 minutes, and medical workers wearing full PPE when in touch with players are all part of the protocols.

Tottenham’s Europa League match against Rennes on Thursday was also postponed after eight players and five members of staff at the London club tested positive for coronavirus.

Spurs’ first-team training facility was forced to close on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson revealed the government’s ‘Plan B’ to combat the spread of Omicron.

Fans must provide confirmation of double vaccination or a negative test to attend sporting events in England with crowds of more than 10,000 people under the new guidelines.
