Maduka Okoye, the Super Eagles goalkeeper, has spoken out for the first time since Nigeria’s elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
Youssef Msakni’s second-half strike was too much for Okoye to handle, and the Super Eagles were eliminated from the event they were strongly favored to win.
The goalie, who is based in the Netherlands, was one of the players criticized for the defeat, along with Alex Iwobi.
The majority of the Super Eagles players have since expressed their disappointment with the loss, promising to do better the next time they don the national colors.
Okoye was supposed to stop Msakni’s 47th-minute shot, but he ran too far to his right and was unable to adjust in time to make the save.
Austine Eguavoen’s team has been out of Cameroon for days, and as criticism continues to pour in, Okoye tweeted, “Glory to you Jehova(h).”
