For the 2022 World Cup playoffs between Nigeria and Ghana, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is considering deploying non-African referees.
SportingLife reports that the goal is to assure complete fairness in officiating amongst the West African rivals.
Meetings are said to be taking place now to iron out the details.
Apart from strong rivalry, these playoffs have a lot riding on them, including a prize pool of at least $12 million for the five teams that will represent Africa in Qatar later this year.
On March 25, the Black Stars will face the Super Eagles in Cape Coast.
The rematch will take place four days later in Abuja.
