Mesut Ozil, Nacho Monreal’s former Arsenal teammate, had “issues with everyone” while at the club, according to Monreal.
After falling out of favor with current manager Mikel Arteta, Ozil was released from his contract in January 2021.
Monreal, who now plays for Real Sociedad, joined Arsenal seven months before the German arrived in September of 2013.
They went on to play for over six years together.
“Ozil’s issue was that he had problem with everyone,” Monreal explained to FourFourTwo.
“With Wenger, it ended terribly; he didn’t play the last few games with him, and then Emery wanted to resurrect him and make him our leader.”
“To begin with, he gave him a lot of confidence and Mesut played a lot, but the coach understood there were other teammates who were in better condition.
“Ozil was one of the best players in the team, one of the best paid, but they saw he wasn’t at the level required.
“As a person, he was good with everyone, but he also missed a lot of games through injury.”
Ozil, now 33, played 254 times for Arsenal in all competitions and now plays for Fenerbache in Turkey.
